SEO IN A MINUTE: Keyword Cannibalization

When creating geographic-oriented “parent” pages, mainly target broad search terms, such as “law firm,” rather than the more specific money terms you’re really trying to rank certain pages on your website for, such as “criminal defense lawyer.”

Why? If you unintentionally over-optimize the current parent page too much for your money keywords that have true buying intent, it may end up competing with lead-generating landing pages on your firm’s site.
